Every individual has certain inherent talents which may not be restricted to the realm of education but encompass a wider area of vocational skills. There are many young people who may not excel in studies but yet possess certain skills which can be nurtured and honed to develop into a sustainable employment. Skill training is developing and improving one’s capabilities and performance by adding practical expertise to theoretical knowledge. It is estimated that only 5% of the total workforce in India has undergone skills training, compared to 52% in the US, 65% in the UK and 96% in South Korea. The inadequacy of skill training has created an environment which does not promote entrepreneurs or innovation, which are key drivers of growth.
Shri Narendra Modi, Honourable Prime Minister of India, has led the ‘Skill India Mission’ to provide impetus to entrepreneurship and bring a sense of self-confidence amongst the poor. Noting that India will have surplus manpower of 4 to 5 crore people over the next decade, the Prime Minister emphasised the need to provide this youthful manpower with skills and ability to tackle global challenges. Supporting this initiative, SRLC set up the Shrimad Rajchandra Skill Development Centre, a dedicated centre in Dharampur to improve the employability of the tribal youth by offering them short-term market linked vocational training and soft skills training at no cost. Spread over an area of 5000 square feet, our centre has 4 classrooms, domain labs and open collaborative working spaces. We conduct employment courses for the tribal youth. They receive a National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) endorsed certificate upon completion of the course. The National Skill Development Corporation is one of a kind, public-private partnership in India overseen by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. It aims to promote skill development by catalysing the creation of large, quality and for-profit vocational institutions. This initiative is carried out in partnership with Jobs Academy, a certified NSDC skill provider.
Our centre also provides entrepreneurial training and creates a unique space to make skill development aspirational for rural youth. Our centre fosters a culture of innovation, exploration and learning for tribal youth and improves the skilling ecosystem, eventually linking them to employment or entrepreneurial careers.
